Alleviating April Stress

Tax season puts stress on many individuals. Survival of the fittest could not be any more relevant than at this time. It is our fitness, from the good stress (eustress) we put on the body through exercise and movement, which allows us to combat the bad stress (distress).

Let's explore what a good measure of your fitness level is. When you get your heart rate up, how fast does it come down? If it stays up for a while you're probably not as fit as you thought you were, or, a bear is actually chasing you. In this situation the bear chasing you is taxes. Whether it is taxes or the bear chasing you, if you have been moving and training your heart rate to go up, then to drop it back down, and repeating this (know as interval training), then you should be just fine. The moral of the story is to get out and move.

Don't think you get off just there though. Proper nutrition and sleeping are also integral to recovering and combating stress, as is keeping your immune system up in a tumultuous time where it may dip.

Here are some tips to combat the unwanted stress:
  1. Strive for good solid sleep and rest.
  2. Try to move or exercise a little even if just 15-30 minutes daily.
  3. Always hydrate properly.
